FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®)

“The varsity sport for the mind,” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.

Students in grades 9-12 (ages 14-18) get to:

  • Learn from professional engineers
  • Build and compete with a robot of their own design
  • Learn and use sophisticated software and hardware
  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
  • Earn a place in the World Championship
  • Qualify for more than $14.8 million in college scholarships

7:30-9:00 AM  Kickoff broadcast from Manchester NH
9:00-10:00 AM  Kit of Parts hand-out

Entrance gate chenged and map upadated 12/16.
The Kick-off broadcast will be in Salvatori Computer Science, room 101 (SAL on the attached map). Enter USC through gate #6, on Vermont Ave. Parking will cost $8 per car. I’m told that the broadcast will begin at 7:30 am this year, but come early as the line to get into USC may be long as only one gate will be open that early on Saturday. We’ll have coffee and Danish at 6:30 or so.

We have just enough seats in SAL 101 to accommodate 4 people (students and adults) from each of the 60+ teams we’re expecting. Make sure one of those people is the adult who is responsible for signing for the kit. Remember to bring a cart to pick up your kit.

Everyone attending a Kickoff event is required to complete a FIRST Consent and Release form. Attendees under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian's signature on the form. To to download and print a paper copy, please visit the FIRST Student Team Members System and Consent/Release web page. Attendees at a FIRST Local Kickoff may be videotaped or photographed for promotional purposes.

If you are attending a different Kickoff Location you will be able to find information at:
